About The Project
Rich opened his studio just before the pandemic hit in 2020 and built his website using SquareSpace. Wanting a more professional and streamlined design, Rich reached out to us to help him revamp his website.

Website Revamp
- Design & Development: The original site was unorganized, and it was missing important sections. Our goal was to simplify the user experience, making it easy for potential clients to find all the information they needed to take the next step and fill out the tattoo inquiry form. We moved the portfolio from the homepage to its own page so that potential clients who wanted to see more of Rich's work could find it, but we avoided distracting those who were already ready to fill out the inquiry form. To make the homepage more effective, we added an FAQ section to address common questions, a testimonial section for social proof, two sliders showcasing the studio and Rich's best work, and an 'About Me' section to establish his credentials and build trust with potential clients.
- Photography: Our goal with the photo shoot was to fill in the gaps where the old website was lacking, particularly putting a face to the business and highlighting the studio. We shot the entire studio to give potential clients a clear sense of the clean and calming environment where they’d be getting tattooed. We took photos of Rich in action because putting a face to the name makes the business more personable and approachable, helping ease potential clients' anxiety about getting a tattoo from Rich.
- Search Engine Optimization: We began by using our SEO software to identify high-traffic keywords with low competition. These keywords were then strategically integrated throughout the site content, including the title, meta descriptions, and alt text. We strategically highlighted the studio's location and referenced the largest nearby town to optimize for local search traffic, ensuring better visibility in geographically targeted searches. Additionally, we optimized the site for mobile use and improved page load speeds, both of which are critical for ranking well on search engines.
- Customer Intake Optimization: The original customer intake process was inefficient, with many clients ignoring instructions and emailing directly, resulting in wasted time and unnecessary back-and-forth to gather information. To solve this, we integrated a form directly into the website, requiring potential clients to complete it before reaching out. This reduced non-serious inquiries and ensured Rich received all the necessary information upfront, eliminating lengthy email exchanges and speeding up the booking process.
Business Strategy
- Google My Business Optimization: Google My Business is a crucial lead generation tool for local businesses, so we optimized Rich's listing to boost traffic to the new website. We updated the photos, corrected outdated business information, and fixed the studio’s address. Google prioritizes listings they are confident are accurate, and any discrepancies lower their confidence, thus hurting the ranking.
- Pricing Strategy: We worked with Rich to come up with a more transparent pricing strategy and charge what he was worth. He originally listed his pricing model as a range of $150-$175. We changed that to just $175. This helped set clear expectations for those wanting to work with Rich as well as eliminating the awkward encounters after a tattoo appointment where people think the price is just an offer and can be haggled.
- Reputation Management Consulting: While optimizing Rich’s Google My Business profile, we noticed that although he had a good rating, he was sporadic in gathering reviews and had significantly fewer than competing tattoo studios. To help increase the number of reviews, we came up with a simple solution: creating a QR code that clients could scan after their appointment, which would take them directly to Google to leave a review. This method helped Rich boost his total reviews by 44% in just 5 months.
